(WFRV) – After the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced months ago that it would end penny production, Kwik Trip is getting ahead as pennies diminish at many of its locations.
According to a release from Kwik Trip, the beloved gas station and convenience store is adopting a new penny-free cash rounding policy following the changes.

While the government hasn’t provided complete guidance on how to proceed, Kwik Trip and Kwik Star locations will round down all cash purchases to the nearest five cents.
The approach will continue for as long as needed, until a permanent solution has been enacted by the government, Kwik Trip said.

“At Kwik Trip, we’re committed to making everyday transactions simple and fair,” President/CEO Scott Zietlow said via a release. “This change reflects our ongoing focus on guest experience. We apologize for any confusion this may create for our guests.”
Guests can still use the penny in purchases; however, the updated register system will automatically round down to all cash purchases. Digital and card purchases will not be affected.
