MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) – The suspect involved in a recent pursuit in Wisconsin that ended in an officer-involved shooting has now been criminally charged, authorities say.
According to a release from the Milwaukee Police Department, 21-year-old Kenneth Cubero was stopped by officers during a traffic stop at 11:27 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, in the 1200 block of West Greenfield Avenue.
Officials say Cubero stopped and exited his vehicle before fleeing on foot and continuing to flee despite commands from police to stop.
After appearing to drop a firearm during the pursuit, Cubero was said to attempt to retrieve it, leading to an officer shooting at him.
Cubero’s firearm was recovered and he was then arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries.
The 21-year-old was officially charged on Monday by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office with one count of Obstructing an Officer. If convicted, Cubero would face up to 9 months in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
