APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – The first new school built in the Appleton Area School District in over three decades is finally here, as officials cut the ribbon on Sandy Slope Elementary School on Wednesday evening.
The area was once home to a neighborhood school called Sandy Slope, and the land on which the new school is built was once the Van Handel Farm, according to a release.

Officials decided to honor that history with the new building by preserving the farm’s original silo, keeping the old in with the new.
The school was built through funding made possible by a 2022 referendum, and it intends to meet the needs of about 600 students, with quality learning at the forefront of the mission.
