In a statement on social media, the Shawano County Sheriff says the county was not formally notified by any federal authority prior to the recent publication that the county had any non-compliance issues.
Sheriff George Lenzner says the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office has reached out to several state and federal agencies inquiring about the reasons behind the designation and what steps can be taken to remove it.
We are grateful for the assistance of Congressman Tony Wied, who contacted our Sheriff’s Office to offer his support. His office has been instrumental in being a liaison with federal contacts to seek clarity on this matter.

Sheriff Lenzner adds, “Shawano County does not identify as a sanctuary jurisdiction and remains committed to upholding federal immigration laws and policies.”
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office is said to be continuing to consult with federal agencies on resolving the issue.
