PHOTOS: Door County Dive Team helps U.S. Coast Guard change out fathometer on icebreaking tug

DOOR COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Door County Dive Team was busy helping out the United States Coast Guard by changing out the fathometer on one of the cutters last Wednesday.

Divers assisted the USCGC Mobile Bay in changing out their fathometer and conducting a hull inspection.

Photos show a rare glimpse of what it’s like to work in an underwater environment with perfect visibility.

USCGC Mobile Bay is an active icebreaking tug under the direction of the United States Coast Guard. Her home port is located in Sturgeon Bay and is one of two ships in her class that has been equipped with a 120-foot aid-to-navigation barge operating on the Great Lakes.
